Boston Marathon leads to Raw Organic Vegan Edibles

In completing the entire 420 Games 2017 National Tour, we got the chance to meet a lot of incredible people and businesses. One of which was Katina Morales, also known as Betty Khronic, which is the name of her company. Betty Khronic offers a selection of CBD and THC infused energy bars, made with raw, locally sourced, vegan ingredients. We had the pleasure of sampling the CBD bars at The 420 Games in LA. They were Cuban Coffee flavored, and were so good! In fact, they were our pre-race fuel before we took on the 1st race of our 2017 tour!

In talking with Betty we discovered she is a fellow Cannabis Athlete who created her amazing edibles while training for the Boston Marathon in 2015! She says the design and release of her organic raw vegan cannabis infused bars was inspired by her passion for fitness. She is “determined to eliminate the negative stigma and stereotypes that are tied to being a cannabis user”. With such similar missions, we had to share her brand and her story with the world.

MJFITNUT:

Please tell us about your history with distance running, or running in general. When did it start, what distances were your favorite, and what do you like most about it?

Betty Khronic:

The first race I ever ran was a half marathon, I started to train seriously at 18 years old.  I was a distance runner for the University of South Florida in college, I ran 5k races for the USF Cross Country team, and the 1500M during track season. My favorite event is the 10k because it is the perfect mid-distance race. It is longer than a 5k, so you have plenty of time to get the groove in, but half the distance of a half marathon, so your speed still has to be quick. What I love the most about running is how human it makes you feel. It connects me to nature, the universe, and other humans.

MJFITNUT:

Please tell us about your history with cannabis. How long have you been consuming it, in what ways, and when did it become a part of your fitness routine?

Betty Khronic:

I was in my teens the first time I started experimenting with cannabis. I have been consuming cannabis for over a decade, and it’s become part of my fitness routine in the last 6 years. I started to train for marathons in my adult life, at 23 years old, and that’s when cannabis became a vital part of my training and recovery. I mostly consume it orally (edibles, tinctures, tea etc.), but I also like to vape, and smoke occasionally. I try and take it easy on the lungs, so I prefer edibles.

MJFITNUT:

What made you search for an all natural way of healing sore muscles and an alternative to aspirins and painkillers?

Betty Khronic:

I am from Florida, one of the largest pharmaceutical consuming states in this country, and up until recently, a state with one of the most minimal regulations on pharmaceutical consumption and distribution. The way cannabis culture is rooted in California, pill popping culture is rooted in Florida. Painkillers and other pharmaceutical drugs are everywhere, easy to get on the street, and even easier to get a prescription. I have witnessed friends, family members, acquaintances, and fellow collegiate athletes ending up addicted to “legal drugs” my entire life. I’ve lost friends to overdoses, and seen first hand how addiction can ruin anyone’s life or end it. No matter how successful, smart, or driven the person may be. Just because it is wrapped up in a pretty pill and signed off by a doctor, doesn’t mean it isn’t heroin or other deadly substances. I wanted an all natural way of healing sore muscles, because I know it exists in plants and herbs without addiction or harmful side effects. I became faster as a distance runner in my adult life when I was able to use cannabis to heal after long runs (I could not use cannabis as a runner in college, NCAA-random drug testing). I made it to the Boston Marathon on my first attempt, and I thank cannabis for allowing me to achieve the time I wanted, by allowing me to heal after intense training. Healing holistically through plant life is a natural part of being human, and it is what the human body needs to heal naturally.

MJFITNUT:

Why do you think this is important, and why do you recommend cannabis as the solution, especially for athletes?

Betty Khronic:

I think this is important because people need to know the truth about cannabis, and eliminate the 100 year negative propaganda machine that’s behind it. I recommend cannabis as the solution, because it is a natural way to help your body heal and repair. Athletes are under a great amount of stress, not just physically, but mentally. Cannabis is a holistic addition to any balanced healthy lifestyle.

MJFITNUT:

You could have just made your own edibles for you and your friends. What do you believe drives you to share your product with the world?

Betty Khronic:

There is a huge void in the cannabis industry for nutritious wholesome edibles. It was a shock to me when I first started going into dispensaries, and there was nothing I could eat. That is what really inspired me to start making my own edibles. The market is all junk food, sweets, and candy. Which is a wonderful treat from time to time in small doses, but if you want to use cannabis regularly, your only choices are desserts and junk food? No bueno. I want to fulfill that void and provide a healthy and tasty option that can be consumed by anyone, regardless of any dietary restrictions. My product is also the only energy bar in the market that is sativa specific.

MJFITNUT:

We’re big supporters of the 420 Games, and saw your first appearance was at the 420 Games. Was that 2016s or 2017s, and what are your thoughts on the event series?

Betty Khronic:

The 420 Games is my favorite cannabis event in the industry. I first debuted at the 2016 420 Games, first time my product went public. I was excited to see so many familiar faces the second time around in 2017. It is so unique to have an event that advocates the education of cannabis, and not just consumption. The 420 Games brings people from all walks of life to the same place to learn about fitness and cannabis, it’s a diverse event for vendors and attendees. I want to thank and congratulate Jim McAlpine, the founder of the 420 Games for helping eliminate the negative propaganda on cannabis and educating the public on the truth. The industry has come a long way since California first went medical, but we still have a long way to go and research that needs to be done.

MJFITNUT:

It's so amazing to continuously see cannabis being incorporated as part of a healthy and active lifestyle. Meeting people like Betty Khronic, and getting the chance to hear and share their stories to help prove cannabis doesn't make you lazy, unsuccessful, or a bad person. Clearly, cannabinoids like THC, CBD, and several others are beneficial components in athletic training, and overall wellness. We want to thank Betty Khronic for taking the time to speak with us, and for using her passion for fitness to create some of the best tasting, and most healthy cannabis edibles we've ever tried. Right now you can get the hemp derived CBD bars online, which can be shipped to all 50 states, and look for her THC infused bars at California dispensaries near you!
