Hands on Healing with the Green Muscle Therapist

Professional athletes and fitness enthusiasts both know how important the role of recovery plays as part of a successful training program. There are several ways you can encourage recovery, one of which is massage. The great thing is you don’t need to be training like a professional athlete, or putting in gym time every day, to benefit from massage. The list of benefits seems to go on forever. It does much more than ease pain, and relieve stress. It can help with symptoms of depression, reduce anxiety, and improve the quality of your sleep. Sound familiar?

“Massage has had a positive effect on every medical condition we’ve looked at”.  Tiffany Field, Ph.D. Director, Touch Research Institute, University of Miami

Something that eases pain, reduces anxiety, and improves sleep, along with a seemingly endless list of other health and wellness benefits? Sounds a lot like marijuana to us! This made us wonder, how can the two be combined to amplify their health and wellness benefits? Well, we met someone who recently found himself asking the same question, and decided to get more hands on.

His name is Joshua Goodman, and he's the Green Muscle Therapist. He’s a role model for anyone in CannaFitness. Joshua gets ripped in and outside of the gym. He has a serious dedication to keep his body in shape, but his commitment doesn’t stop at himself. Joshua is committed to helping others, not only by setting a positive example, but also by becoming a massage therapist, in the hopes of helping others heal. His toolbox for healing? Fitness, massage, and cannabis.

MJFITNUT:

Tell us a little about yourself.

Joshua:

Me in a nut shell, is summed up in two words, weed and muscle. I’m a dad who likes everything about cannabis and fitness. For me, both have went hand in hand, that is why I wanted to add it to my massage techniques. I had never seen anything I could use, until Xternal sent me a care package that had a bottle of CBD oil. I used it on my wife, and from then on, I use all three together, fitness, massage, and cannabis. I’m still fairly new to the massage scene, and only work on a few clients, in hopes of later on taking my massage techniques to the pros, and to my cannabis community as well.

MJFITNUT:

What is your favorite way to consume marijuana, and do you have any favorite strains and/or products?

Joshua:

I love to smoke my bowl! That’s my favorite way. I’m not opposed to any other ways though! I once had a place near me, that for 3 months, had a strain called Black Betty. Well, I never had the cash to get it, and one day I had a free gram of my choice there. I picked Black Betty, and instantly fell in love with this strain. I have yet to find that strain again. I now stick to Indica’s, for I am hyper already, and it calms me enough to not jump all over the place, without knocking me out.

MJFITNUT:

On your Instagram, you look like you live in the gym. Where do you get your determination from, and why do you feel the need to openly set such a positive example for cannabis and fitness?

Joshua:

I am in the gym a lot, and can say it’s my second home.

I honestly want to be the face of cannabis fitness. I want to set a high bar for all my fellow cannabis fitness athletes. I want everyone to give 100% to their fitness. I don’t care what you can, or can’t do, as long as I see you giving 100%, you’re a winner in my book. When I mean athletes, I mean everyone. If you’re out there, just starting by walking a little bit more, you’re an athlete. You’re a winner. You're trying, and that is a heck of a lot more than some people are doing, and we enjoy it even more because of cannabis. I don’t want to be famous or publicized. I want to set an example.

MJFITNUT:

For us, you definitely serve as a reminder to be disciplined, and get our asses in the gym!

Please tell us more about the CBD massage oil you mentioned.

Joshua:

I have been using CBD massage oil from Xternal, and I can’t say enough about it. Every single product they put out WORKS! I soon hope to be providing CBD massages to everyone, but right now my non-cannabis clients aren’t used to the idea yet, but are coming around. It’s something that’s still new to a lot of people.

MJFITNUT:

We actually had the pleasure of sampling Xternal’s Topical Analgesic Spray at this year’s 420 Games LA! They were handing them out at the finish line and were the first topical product we used after completing the race. We sprayed our calves and hamstrings before doing the cool down yoga and feel it definitely helped relieve any soreness.

What are your opinions and thoughts on the effectiveness of topical and transdermal methods of medicating with CBD and/or THC?

Joshua:

I love it! It has been around a long time, and I have seen family from Mexico, who would soak cannabis in alcohol to rub on their sore spots. Getting it at shops is hard here in LA. Not many of them carry topicals. Again, Xternal showed me love, and allowed me to try all their products. There are pains that need quick relief, like muscle pain, that sometimes smoking can mildly help, while topical is a much more effective relief option. It baffles me, a lot more people don’t reap the benefits of it.

MJFITNUT:

What advice would you give someone, with no marijuana experience, who doesn’t want to smoke, but may be interested in topicals, or transdermal patches as a means to medicate?

Joshua:

I tell this to a lot of non-cannabis users, you don’t have to get high to reap the benefits of cannabis. You don’t have to spark up, or even eat cannabis to gain from the plant. Topicals are nothing but relief to whatever your ailment may be, from chronic arthritis, to regular day to day activity muscle pain, I guarantee topicals, like Xternal’s, will help.

MJFITNUT:

What sort of massage therapies do you offer?

Joshua:

All massage modalities are good in their own way. For me, I’m a deep tissue kind of guy. I want to help fix what’s hurting you. Others are relaxing modalities, and I’m not against them, it’s just not me. I want to help physically. Thanks to Xternal, I have been able to use CBD massage oil, and see how much it helps. Right now, I’m slowly getting people to try it, and showing them how much it helps.

MJFITNUT:

How can people reach you for these services, and do you have anything else to add?

Joshua:

They can reach me on Instagram. I’m always on and always answer quick, and would provide my number via direct message.

Thank you to everyone that has followed and supported me. It’s all of you, that help me, help you.

MJFITNUT:

Well, it sounds to us like massage therapy is a big player in the game of health and wellness! Then, when you add the benefits of a regular fitness routine, on top of the wonderful medicinal properties of the marijuana plant, you’ve got a powerful team ready to help you win overall well being. Thank you to Joshua, for sparking up our interest in massage therapy, and for taking the time to talk to us today. Keep up everything you’re doing. It really serves as an inspiration to us, as we’re sure it does many.
